Finally A Solution!
I have been messing around trying to find a solution to the problem for almost a year now. Sometimes it wouldn't work for days and I would have it on standby and when I would boot it back up later VOILA! It would work but as soon as you shut it down, it wouldn't work again. Sound familiar? I tried emailing Acer asking if they were looking into a solution for this problem as it is so common. All they said was it needed to be sent in for repair. I found Acer's tech support number and I went ape-$h!t on the guy on the phone as he was going to charge me $60 for a half hour of tech support and he wouldn't even tell me if they were working on the problem at all. He told if it was sent in for repair that the sound card and jacks would be replaced with the EXACT SAME MODEL!! WTF? Isn't that defeating the purpose?!?! So I went off on the guy again and after about a full minute of me insulting his mother and various other aspects of his life, I hung up on him. He most likely killed himself that night and I don't blame him as he works for the company with the worst customer service in the world.
But today i found a very simple, inexpensive, and, most importantly, a 100% guaranteed solution. No it is not shooting up the local Acer dealership, just in case some were thinking so.
Simpling drive down to the nearest computer accessory store, in my case it was OTV technologies, and buy a USB Sound Adapter. It has the same jacks on it and it completely bypasses the sound card, which means it will always work. No more guessing games! And only for $15 to $20!! Some are even about the size of a memory stick which makes it really convenient.
I hope everyone finds that this helps and I encourage everyone to call Acer's customer support line, 1-800-816-2237, and give them all a good screaming at. I recommend being polite at first then getting pissed off after you have their full attention, otherwise they will most likely hang up. (That's some good customer service!)
Again, I hope that this advice is of use to everyone and you can finally enjoy what you were supposed to have in the first place.
