System Restore Saved Me!
I had this same issue, "no audio device" in Sound and Audio Devices. I tried everything: updated BIOS, chipset, video driver, reinstalled service pack, ran diagnostics, and of course uninstalled and reinstalled all the right drivers, and more.
Then I decided to do a system restore. I have the service enabled for exactly this reason; this is the first time I've ever needed it.
Answer:
So if you can... DO A SYSTEM RESTORE! It worked for me!
