Ok, this is another one of the cursed Audio Device Threads. I have managed to get a few things done though and now it seems that Windows is the problem maker.... I am still trying other things that I can find but, perhaps my problem may be a bit simpler.

Things I have done/accomplished:
- uninstalled & Reinstalled Realtek mobo sound driver
- uninstalled & Reinstalled Sound Card sound driver and all programs
- Flashed the BIOS and made sure sound is enabled
- Looked for updates for all sound devices in device manager
- After all of that WOW auto-detected sound and started working.
-- Realplayer and Vent cannot auto-detect sound, but if I manually set the sound device it works perfectly.
- All mobo drivers are current

Problems:
- Parport has a yellow exclamation mark. Microsoft support says it wont' affect anything though
- No default sound device and everything in "Sounds and Audio Devices" is greyed out

other info:
- (Dxdiag)Direct music works on my live card but not microsoft synthesizer.
- Custom built computer, no Manufacturer and I have triple checked that everything is compatable
