His motherboard is a Geforce 6100PM-M2 V3.0 (ECS) he has download the sound driver for his mother board, however there seems to be a problem with the computer recognizing the device. His driver is suppose to be Realtek but his pc is showing codec (not sure if that's spelled correctly).
Do we need to enable one in order to get the other one to work for him to get sound?

it's Realtek HD audio can you check Device Manager / System Devices / is the Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture or could show Microsoft UAA installed ?
