The computer that will be sharing the internet connection should be address 192.168.0.1 for ease of setup.
To share the internet connection you need to use software to share it or the built-in Windows XP ICS (internet connection sharing).
You did not state the type of connection you have, but they all are pretty much the same.
Go to you network connections again. Right click on the connection that connects to the internet. Select the Advanced tab. Check the box "Allow other network users to connect....connection"
You should uncheck the Internet Connection Firewall until you verify everything is working. Ok the windows.
Now go the the second computer and open the network connection properties again. Open the Internet Protocol properties and for the gatesway IP address enter the sharing computers number (192.168.0.1)
Ok the windows.
At this point reboot the 1st computer, then the second.
Now, if the first computer can surf, but the second cannot, you will need to find the DNS server IP numbers to use on the second computer. These rarely change. So, find them and keep them written down.
Click Start, Run. type cmd, then press enter.
At the prompt in the Window that comes up, type ipconfig /all
That's ipconfig then a space and then /all. Press enter.
It'll spit out all your connection information, but what your looking for will down the list "DNS Servers". and there will be two number sets listed. Write them down. Close the window.
Go to the second computer, open its network connection properties. Open Internet Protocol properties and enter these two numbers in the DNS Server area at the bottom of the window. Ok the windows. Then try to surf again.
