ya, i had the same problem to. i figured out what it was and how to fix it. windows update screwed you with their driver update. here is how o fixed it.
1. go to the manufacture website to get the latest update.
2. download and install it. remember the location of the install folder.
3. go to device manager. you problably will still show a no device install or a yellow sign next to the sound device.
4. click on the device and click on the update driver.
5. click on browse my comp. for driver software.
6. click on let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer.
7. pick the driver you need from the list and click on next. you probably will be prompted that the driver is not digitally signed, since it did not come from an actual disk.
you will be prompted to close app. check the device manager and check you sound driver settings. everything should be good. it worked for me on Vista and WINDOWS 7.
