I found a fix on another web site which is so simple, thought I would help others with this similar problem. Tried changing default browser through tools, options, programs, with no luck. Still couldnt access hyperlinks. This is what did work for me.

Click on Start menu.
Click Default programs
Click on 'set program access and computer defaults'
Click on the 2 down arrows on right side of screen next to 'custom'
Under 'choose a default web browser', click 'INTERNET EXPLORER'
click ok
Make sure you see a box telling you settings are being changed, if not try again, I had to do this twice.
