glennw may be right. I don't use Win 2000, but I've heard some 2000 Pro users say that treating this as a Blaster worm issue has taken care of the problem. A couple of points about Win 2000 and the Blaster worm:
1. Microsoft doesn't support the Gold version or SP1 (I'm not sure about SP2), so upgrading to SP4 will be necessary in order to successfully download the patch.
2. It's vital that you follow the steps in the correct order. Download the patch first and then use the removal tool after you have the patch (and a firewall up).
