Yes. Windows has its faults. But the choices are almost limitless. Windows users do not have to use Outlook, IE, or media player. There are many many programs that will do the job better for free. Can Mac offer alternatives or variety? I'm not familiar with Mac at all. They do have a small market share and I know Mac hardware is expensive. Linux is the ultimate OS in my opinion. Its free, it will do most everything, its secure, virus free, and you can install it on most any PC including Mac (yellowdog linux).
