Looses IP address after rebooting
Hopeing you guys can help out with a issue I have seen with one of my pc's. Here is the background on the pc/issue.
Micron pc
Had 2k installed
Netgear FA311 Nic (Worked fine)
2k server handing out DHCP addresses
2 other pc's 1 xp 1 2k both pull IP's fine
Reloaded the Micron with XP Pro
Joined it to my home domain during setup (Pulls IP)
go to log in the first time, can't, log in locally it autoconfiged a IP
release/renew autoconfigs an IP no IP from DHCP
reinstall the NIC, it pulls a IP from DHCP
Reboot and it autoconfigs, and will not pull again
updated NIC driver NO firmware updates that I could find
replaced the FA311 with a FA312 with fresh drivers, same behavior
Updated to XP SP1a same behavior
"Connection Status" page shows packets being sent but none recieved.
Swapped ports and cables to the switch
Put in static IP addresses and it does not communicate again.
At this point I suspect hardware, BUT, I swaped cables, nics, switch ports, PCI slots, NICS, all of which work fine in/for other pc's. PLUS I have repoduced the behavior of it pulling from DHCP right after installing the nic 5 times now and a reboot "brakes" it.
So I suspect software. Latest drivers for the nic plus service pack for XP. I would reload the TCP/IP stack like in NT4, but no longer seems to be a option under the connection properties or the add remove windows components....
You guys see anything I am missing?
