when you boot from the home cd , do you get to the partition display page, if so delete the partition, then create the partition again, select it as the designation to install xp, and it should start the format, if the format does not go through, first i would check the ide/ribbon cable, next try a different drive, if the computer is under a manufacturer's warrenty, just call them up before you do anything. if the format does go through you should be able to reinstall xp just fine, good luck.
