Help with External Links in Excel

There are two ways that I've tried doing this and both are not doing what I want it to. I'm trying to create an external link to a word document (*.RTF) in excel. So that when the information changes in the word document. The changes are reflected in the excel spreadsheet. These are the two ways I've tried:

1. Clicked on <Insert> then <Objects>, dialog opens click on the <create from file> tab located the word document, checked the <link to file> check box, and click on <OK> button. What happens is it creates the link, updates it fine. But only the first page of the word document is displayed.

2. Opened the word document selected, and copied, all the information (+/- 5 pages) opened the excel spreadsheet. Clicked <edit> and then <paste special> dialog box opens. Select <Paste Link> selects <Microsoft word document object> and click <ok>. The object is created, but only the first page is displayed, and
when I've closed the word document. I can't EDIT or OPEN the object when right clicking the object and selecting <document object>, <EDIT> or <OPEN>. I get the error message "Cannot
start the Source Application for this object".

I hope someone can help me with this with any suggestions.

Eric
