One of the wonderful features about Windows XP is the ability to perform a system restore.

Go to Start - Programs/All Programs - Accessories - System Tools, then click System Restore, choose the default option, which is Restore my computer to an earlier time, click Next. On the next page you will see an image of a calendar, choose a previous date before this started happening, then choose a restore point related to that date. Click next, then Finish (if applicable) then sit back and watch the magic.

Also if you're unable to select any options via the normal mode, then start up the machine in safe mode, two options.

Go to Start - Run, type: msconfig

On the System Configuration Utility screen select Diagnostic Startup under the General tab, the computer will restart in Safe mode, follow the instructions listed for System Restore.

Follow the same instructions and choose Normal mode to disable and get back to normal windows after the restore. Keep us posted.
