Angry Windows XP home edition will not boot up

Please HELP! Think the problem started when running Lego Racers 2 on Windows XP Home Edition. Now when I turn the PC on it tries to boot Windows, a blue screen flashes up for about 1 second so I cannot read what it says. Then I get the dos screen which starts "We apologize for the inconvenience but Windows did not start properly............then it lets you try to select, start up in 5 differnet modes - Save Mode etc.

When I select anyone of these options and press enter it returns back to this screen. I have tried F8 and get the option of selecting but it still returns to the Dos screen. When I select any of the safe modes it produces a long list of DOS script with all of the lines starting with the following:
multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (0)

I am new to Windows XP, but have the system about a year. Any advice PLEASE!!!
