interesting, to say the least. what is the common link between the two problems? what was done on the computer just before the problem started? what might have auto updates for drivers and software, virus updates...ect. sounds a bit like a problem McAfee virus scan had a while back, dont know if you use it or not...have you tried turning on the computer power, tap the F8 key constantly untill the boot options appear and tried safe mode, or last known good config?
