Question LAN IP address

I run a small home network (4 host machines attached to a Zonet Router and out into internet land via a cable modem. No DMZ set up. DHCP configured. Internal network addresses range from 192.168.8.17 thru 192.168.8.20..............
My wan IP address is obviously what the outside internet user would see and not my private addressing. Is it possible to change the WAN address ? I have been having some hassle from external gamers whom I do not want to be associated with any longer and I think the best way would be to have a new public IP address ??? I have spoken with my ISP and have been informed that they cannot do anything ??? They say I should let the DHCP lease period run out and not use the net facility until after that lease expires and that way a new public IP WAN address would be generated ? Is that correct ? I just want to change my public IP address to deny these guys the ability to get to me. No ! I have not been a bad guy worthy of being blocked from certain servers........just trying to deny the bad guys the opportunity to ping/invoke a DOS attack. Likewise, I've had the same external public IP address for around 15 months now and for good security reasons, I would like it changed. Any thoughts ?
