XP User Profiles Missing. Desperate

Windows XP Home Edition
Dell Dimension 8200, 1.9Ghz, 512mb RAM

I cannot get into Windows XP.

Ran several Trojan scanning programs last night. Specifically, 'Trojan Hunter', and 'The Cleaner.' Trojan Hunter found 2 or 3 trojans, and deleted them accordingly. No problem there. 'The Cleaner' found 8 or 9 trojans, and auto-deleted them on my command. Upon deleting the last of the trojans, I found Windows to be acting very strangely. My playlist in Media Player became non-functional. Various sections of the toolbar on the startbar became inoperable. The 'Shutdown' button on the Start bar disappeared. I tried to use Task Manager to shut down my computer, but that wasn't functioning correctly either. I decided to simply turn off my computer and restart. After restarting, everything booted up fine. Windows loaded fine etc. Except, when Windows gets to the part where it promps me to select which user to choose, it simply sits there with the Windows XP blue welcome screen and no Users are selectable. As if my user profiles had been deleted. Anyway, this makes it impossible for me to log into Windows. The computer just sits there at this part. I tried letting it sit there for several hours, and nothing happened. I tried using all the various options in the Safe Mode section and all of them bring me to the Windows welcome screen, where it just sits. I can move the mouse around, but that's about it. Essentially, I have no access to my computer, the internet, files etc.

I'm currently seeking help via a nearby computer lab, and would appreciate any help, as I have information on the non-working computer necessary for my animation classes. Would appreciate any help that anyone is willing to give. Thanks in advance.
