Keyboard
Hi everyone; my first time here. I run WindowsXP. Last week, I used Norton Anti-virus to clean up my computer. It increased the speed quite a lot. However, next time I turned it on, the keyboard didn't work. My keyboard uses USB connection. With no keyboard, I couldn't type my password. I tried a different keyboard (non USB) and then both the keyboard and the mouse were not responing. So, back to the USB keyboard. Got on to the system using the Guest user account but couldn't connect to the internet since I needed the Administrator's permission and couldn't get to the Admin. account since I couldn't type in the password. I could type in the guest site by using the on-screen keyboard and believe me, I was technologically handicapped. Couldn't use the on-screen keyboard to type my password because you have to logged on to load it on. After spending a few days in frustration and talking to different people, I came up with the idea of typing my password using Notepad, then 'copy' it; then, switch user to my account and 'paste' it in my password box. To my surprise and delight, it worked. I felt like a kid at Christmas. As I discovered, there is very little one can do in a user account to fix things without the admin.'s permission. In my account, I discovered that it wasn't the USB connections as various shortcut buttons added to the keyboard worked. It wasn't the keyboard driver as I re-installed it. The sysem says the driver is OK but it doesn't detect a keyboard attached. I am left with the impression that Norton might have affected the Windows' loadup process as it impacts the keyboard main functions. Does that make sense and if not,what would and how would I correct?
Everyone should try using the on-screen keyboard to really appreciate the value of a simpe keyboard after and what some handicapped people have to put up with.
