Graphics Problem

Before I start explaining my problem I'll just let everyone know I know little about hardware. My problem started with a recent thunderstorm. I tried to reboot the day after and found my modem didn't work and my display seemed to be very blueish. I replaced the modem and thought my monitor had been fried. I replaced the monitor but found that I had the same problem with a different monitor. It boots up to the initial splash screen with the same blueish color, so I don't think there is a problem with any drivers. It seems that in the RGB the blue is ok, the green is almost yellow and there doesn't seem to be any red at all. I have an HP Pavillion with windows XP installed the graphics chip passed all the available PC Doctor tests, although I couldn't find a test to check colors.
It is an Intel 82845G on board with 64 meg. Is there a way to fix the problem? Can I buy a graphics card and use it instead of the built in graphics? Like I said I am a hardware moron so if anyone has any ideas at all I would greatly appreciate their help and also if a new card will work are there any suggestions? I play a lot of video games but I don't want to go too nuts on price. I would like something to pretty much just replicate what I already have.

Thanks in advance
