Question KRNL386.exe error

Hi, After installing automatic updates recently, i shut down without restarting. When i turned on my desktop pc a day later, windows informed me that the OS was being updated, after which a blue screen with an error message came on. It advise me that an error occured:
File name: MCSCAN32(01) + 000541F7
Error: OE: 0028: CFCBB1F7
The message said to hit any key to return to windows or to restart. Restarting took me thru the same error screen. If i cancel the scanning, then the pc hangs in the login screen after the initial McCaffee antivirus software screen loads.

Any other key took me to a dialogue box with this message:
Kernel32 caused an error in KRNL386.exe. This kernel will close.
It never closed.

I searched thru google and other tech forums and windows help...found nothing specifically related to my error. I found one similar error - but it related to "traditional chinese ME" whatever that is.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Lisa
