same issue, but i've only been running into it for a handfull of days now. I checked the logs and nothing in there is worth noting besides a whole bunch of errors with my cd-drive (but that's another issue). I analyzed my drive with the defragmentor and looked at the report it spits out. my free space is at %17 of 80GB, and it is hardly fragmented (1.05 frags per file). The thing that stuck out however is that the Master file table is being used at %99. I have no idea wether this is normal, but if the registry needs to write when the system shuts down and it gets broken because it can't do it properly it probably tries to restore itself with the backup registry file on bootup. just a thought, but I'd like some reflections from some more knowledgable folk.

...

oh,
running winxp sp1 (up to date)
AVG (up to date)
have a hardware firewall (router)
have a software firewall (outpost)
the system has been running relatively properly for about three months now. the registry issue came about a couple of days ago and I have made no hardware changes since I got it up and running.

I'll see what I can come up with in the mean time, but I'd like some review of my thoughts.

,cheers
