Write protected folders
Hi,
I have a problem with a write protected file that I hope someone can help solve.
I recently had reason to reformat my hard drive, and re-load all my programs, including XP Home.
I'm also a great Flight Simulator fan, and after loading this, (fs2002) I tried installing 3rd party scenery that had worked perfectly before.
I now get an error message that a configuration file (scenery.cfg) is write protected, and the installation stops.
A check of the file properties indicates an unchecked Read Only box, so where does the write protection come from ?
The folder in which the file is in, is write protected, as indeed are all my folders throught the directory tree. Is this an XP default ?
Downloading a few attribute changer programs and trying these on the folders makes no difference. The read only attributes stay, no matter what I try.
Can someone explain why the installation says the file is write protected, and why attribute changer programs have no effect.
I've contacted the 3rd party author, and even he is stumped by this. He says there is nothing written into his program that requires interrogation of the scenery configuration file to ascertain any of its attributes, and that this looks like a Windows problem.
All help greatfully received.
Thanks
Ron
