It was the memory

I was having the same problem on a machine for about 6 months. Put a new hard drive in and installed XP w/SP2 on immediately got the same error once the install was finished. If there is one thing in 19 years as a PC tech that I know for sure, it's if someone has fixed a problem, try their solution before dismissing it (can you hear me VISION?). Now considering that I just reinstalled fresh, I had to believe it was a hardward issue, so taking the advice, I changed the memory with AN IDENTICAL 256 meg Infenion stick from another machine and the problem has gone away. Put the "problem" memory stick in the other machine and no problems there either. The moral? PC EQUIPMENT IS FLAKEY WHEN IT COMES TO COMPATIBILITY!!! Sometimes all the parts don't play nice. And I've never found a software memory tester that was worth a damn...LOL

Thanks gang!
