Very nice, I must say. I did the same thing last week, I reinstalled and it came back after a handfull of reboots so i decided to do absolutely nothing after installing xp and just reboot it. Sure enough it happened after a while. So I swappped a stick of 512 from my brother's machine and untill now have not had the problem come up. So that's two that so far have subdued this problem through hardware troubleshooting. My replacement RAM wasn't exactly identical to the first, but until now it's working fine.
Curiously, what motherboard did you have the issue on?
