Problem With Outlook Express

Hi Folks,

I need a bit of help with a fault that has developed with Outlook Express.

Occasionally when I open OE I get a window entitled "Logon-pop.freeserve.com. This asks me to enter my username and password. However these are already entered in the appropriate fields. When I click on OK I get an error message stating "there was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your password was rejected..........etc.

When I close down the original window I have no access to my e-mails.

On checking the pop.freeserve.com properties window I notice that my incoming mail (POP3) is shown as 127.0.0.1 when it should be pop.freeserve.com. I therefore amend the window to read pop.freeserve.co.uk and apply the changes. Outlook Express then continues to work normally.

The problem however reoccurs intermittantly during the day and I have to apply the same procedure all over again.

This seems to happen especially after I add any new hardware or software to my PC. OE develops this fault following system reboot.

I contacted my ISP (Wannado) and they said that it must be a software problem with OE and that I should try reinstalling it. I can report that I tried reinstalling OE but that this did not cure the problem.

I also scanned my PC for possible viruses using McAfee and no infected files were found. I have windows SP2 installed with all their additional security features activated (anti-virus, firewall...etc). I also have McAfee's internet security suite installed on my PC. This is fully up to date with all security features running. I do not therefore believe this fault to be the result of a virus.

This problem is really annoying and I am anxious for a solution. I recently had a major upgrade carried out on my PC (e.g. faster processor, new graphics card, new motherboard...etc). The PC is working great apart from this annoying fault.

Has anyone any idea what is causing this problem and what can I do to fix it?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Regards.

Satfanni.
