Windows XP reinstallation problem

(xp home)

I decided to do a full format of my hard drive and reinstall of windows XP home. Everything seemed to be fine, until I restarted my computer. When i switch my comp on, I am given the option to choose one of two windows XP home edition operating systems. pressing enter on the first one is the new install, and I would go into windows normally. However, if i press enter on the second, I recieved the following warning message:

windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem.
Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware. Please check the windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information.

Obviously, what I would like to happen is for the computer, when turned on, to boot straight into windows without having to select a boot path. Can anybody help?

Many Thanks.
