DEP is great, its a major step forward for windows, but its main problem is its a huge system hog, requiring hardware enabled cpu's, other than that its software which is the main problem, mainly due to the shell extensions that are added over the course of installing stuff, winzip for example, causes a crash bug in explorer.exe.

the types of attack that DEP prevents are not widestream if at all. they require INSANE ammounts of knowlege on program dll injection and program thread hooking, phew, DEP is just not worth it atm due to the HUGE downside and major bugs it has atm.

other than that i am missing some of the features in SP2 like the browser object manager and more restrictive activeX controls, they where nice, but the security center bites ass untill you turn it off

on an sp2 download i have found it best to turn DEP off, a decent firewall and AV are all you really need, on clean installs keep it on.

the green screen is a codec problem, incompatabilities. try removing all codecs , and i mean all of them, easy to get them back, and install one at a time, i say XviD first since that causes most problems, forget 3ivX and PiX, then DivX and then the MS mpeg 4, i reccomend the kazza lite codec pack over the nemo one, cos nemo has more codecs and gets confusing, they useually cause a confilct.

sometimes it does matter what player you use, when i had green screen problems, the only player not to have them was the divx player itself, it depends on what display layer it uses, if u open a movie and then open another player you can tell they run on the same display layer when the black background of one is overlapping the playing movie and you can see the movie in the blank area
