audio and modem will not work/ new hard drive
i am currently helping someone repair their computer. they have a sony vaio desktop, it's about a year old, i don't know the model number off the top of my head. their hard drive was completely fried, so i replaced it and went through the usual process, then installed WinXP. all of the programs i installed worked fine, and the system recognizes the usb drivers, but windows will not pick up on the dial-up modem being used on the system, and it will not recognize the audio card. the only systems i have ever replaced hard drives or other hardware on were systems i built myself, and i know that after i did so, i had to run software for the motherboard, video card, etc. is this the same for store-bought computers? will the audio card or modem work without some kind of software? if not, is there any way that i can contact sony and get a disc for the hardware? apparently the chain store that set up his computer failed to give him this disc, if it came with one. thanks in advance for answering the numerous questions here.
