You can attempt to repair this file be starting windows setup using origional setup CD-ROM.
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."

The problem is, I don't have a setup CD-ROM, the computer is a packard bell, and as such all the installation stuff was allready on the computer. I have tried using the recovery CD, but that doesn't work.

The other problem is, any key I press seems to re-boot the computer, only bringing it back to that message.

Please help me!!

Thank you
James

btw, it's xp home

Hey ya.

I just wanted to let some peoples know that I was able to resolve this same problem just this morning.

A user on another forum pointed me to this KB article...

http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;q307545

I didn't follow it exactly but more or less. I booted up off of an NTFS DOS boot disk. I renamed only c:\windows\system32\config\system to system.bak and copied c:\windows\repair\system to c:\windows\system32\config\system.

I was able to boot after that.
