Introduction to Recovery Media Creator
The program you'll be using to burn a backup copy of the recovery media is called "Recovery Media Creator" and it appears every time the computer starts up until the first set of Recovery CDs are successfully created. If the burn fails, the program will allow the customer to try burning again.

There are three places you can find this program:
In the center of the screen when Windows starts up.
This application runs with Windows like a TSR at startup and can be found in MSCONFIG as "Remind XP". The path to this executable is "C:\WINDOWS\Creator\Remind_XP.exe", and it will allow you to run it from the command line once per boot. Once the program is loaded, it waits exactly one minute before appearing in the center of the screen. (see image on the right)

Clicking the button labeled "Now" brings you to a new window titled "Recovery CD/DVD Creator". (see below)

On the START menu under All Programs > System Recovery This brings you directly to the window titled "Recovery CD/DVD Creator". (see below)

If you can't find it on the START menu, you can run it manually:

Click on START
Click on Run...
Type in "C:\WINDOWS\CREATOR\CD Creator.exe" without the quotes
Click on OK

Start Recovery Media Creator
Click on Start Creation.
The next screen varies, depending on what kind of media burner drive is installed in the computer.

If the computer has a CD burner drive, in the Recovery CD/DVD Creator window, click Yes.

If the computer has a DVD burner drive, in the Recovery CD/DVD Creator window select Number of CDs required:, and then click OK.

The Recovery CD/DVD Creator lists the files to backup.

At the Recovery CD/DVD Creator window, label a blank CD-R disk as outlined, and then insert the disc into the optical drive. Click OK.

The Recovery CD/DVD Creator writes the files to the CD-R media.

The Recovery CD/DVD Creator runs a Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) on the CD to verify that it burned properly.

Note: If the CD does not burn properly, a prompt to re-burn the CD displays.

The Recovery CD/DVD Creator lists the files to backup for the next CD. The process of listing the files to backup, prompting the customer to insert a blank CD-R disk, writing the files to the CD-R, and running a Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) on the CD occurs for each CD in the CD set until all CDs have been successfully made. The number of CDs created varies from computer to computer.

Once all CDs in the CD set have been successfully made, in the Recovery CD/DVD Creator window click OK.
