right ok here we go by the way I love helping people with computers, you see I build my own,if you go into user account and click onto or it might come up, for you to change the name aply ok and you should find then you have the new name up.
Also cmos is memory that helps the bios, you see the little battery on the motherboard, if you take that out for 2-3 hours and then put it back in. it will wipe everything in the memory it is another way of being able to do a complete reinstall, which would not hurt in your case. also can you borrow off any a windows xp sp2 disk service pack, because as long as the xp disk you have already is genuine, then you can install the service pack as well it will sort out a lot of your problems.
