Alternatively - you can boot to DOS and do a search for the file on the PC - when you find it - rename it to something else. Then copy the fresh one to the same folder - likely that it is in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\.
I use an old but good DOS program called Norton Commander, which incidently can be used from in or out of Windows 98 - the program will show you all hidden files etc - and of course you have keystrokes and a graphical screen for file / disk copying / replacing.
If everything is okay find the old renamed file and delete it. Then do a fresh restore.
