A good guess, or at least the first thing you should check seeing that the PC is quite old is your CMOS battery. This is a small replaceable lithium battery cell 3V housed on the motherboard and should be easily accessible for changeout. They are normally given a lifespan of 2 - 5 years and are responsible for preserving all the sconfiguration settings in the BIOS - including the time. On some systemboard the usual tell-tale sign that it needs replacing is not keeping the proper time, and the F1 prompt appearing sometimes on bootup.
