Hi, I'm having the exact same 82801 BA/BAM controller problem. No sound from the PC speaker after installing XP (media player doesn't complain about anything, and I can listen to a cd thru the cd player headphones jack). I've updated the chipset with the latest utility from Intel, and have tried drivers from C-Media, Realtek, and Avance. None work. The bios setting is 'auto' for the controller.

Plzzz help!
