Well, odd things happen on WinXP, and one just happened to me (again). It made my audio work somehow.... anyways, here goes:
1) restarted computer <---I am SURE this had NO effect, but for data's sake, i put this in.
--Tested it, not working
2) called Radioshack and they had nothing for me, i didn't even touch the mouse while calling them.
3) decided to see if i could fix it myself (just did it for kicks). Went control panel->sound and audio devices and went to tab "audio". I then hit the sound playback scrolldown boxes to make sure that i only had 2 options available (modem #0 Line Playback and modem #0 handset playback) which i did. I then figured "hm... i wonder what the MIDI music playback is about" because it's buttons were not ghosted. So, i hit it's scrolldown box and saw that it only had it's current selection as an option.
I was still curious so i hit its "about" button and read it, then hit OK. I then went back to the scrolldown box for the sound playback and found that it had added another option by some miracle: Vinyl AC'97 Audio (WAV) (I am thinking that the name is specific to my computer). I selected it and selected it for my sound recording option and hit apply. Now my sound works.
SO, windows is screwy, don't mess with it :P. I'll tell you if i get my mic to work too.
Cheers,
Unislash
EDIT: Mic works now, i did nothing more to it than i have said here
