Do you have a soundcard [PCI] or onboard sound?
Did you get a disk with it?
Are there any yellow marks in device manager?[start/contol panel/system/hardware tab/device manager] If there is [and even if there isn't] you could right click, and either update driver or uninstall and reboot to have it reinstall itself.
Also, look in sounds & audio [via contol panel] ensure your sound device is selected from the drop down menu in the playback section.
If none of this applies; For onboard sound find out who the motherboard manufacturers are, go to their site and reinstall the mobo sound drivers. Likewise for separate soundcard, go to their site .
