I suspect that your sound is disabled in BIOS, I can't get to the information at Dell site, you need the serial tag, the best thing to do is go to Dell site and search for how to enter BIOS and check if sound is enabled.It is usally in Advanced options.
With reference to Plug and Play look at this and see what tumbleweed says about plug and Play.
