Windows XP My Network Places

I had a very.. violent and painful experience with my network recently. I bought a new computer and hooked it up to my first one. Everything had been going great for the past few months even the printer was working from the second computer. But then I went to setup file sharing and all was well until I rebooted.

Tried to connect from my second machine to my first through the link made in the My Network Places.. got nothin except an error about possibly not having permissions. Tried everything for hours and hours.. all day, still the same problem.. rebooted over and over.

Eventually.. today actually I just found that my problem was actually not giving the machines long enough (or something like that). I tried this time and gave it about an hour or so and the folders eventually worked. Why does it take so long for the folders to 'resolve'?

OS: Windows XP Professional (SP2)

I sincerely apologize if this was rambled on but I'll forget to post this tomorrow and my head hurts from getting this to 'work' although I found I actually didn't do anything..
