I have Win 98SE, I was using Cable I'm now on DSL. At first I would do the 'ol Ctrl-Alt-Del and "End Task" and then open IE and everything was fine; now when I do that I get the wonderful blue screen with the Fatal Exception Error.

I have McAfee Firewall, and run and keep my anti-virus current, I also have Ad-Ware and Spy-Bot; I run everything at least once a week; according to these programs my computer is clean. And IE 6 is up to date also.

Any ideas? This is driving me insane.

Thanks!!

Hi MariaM,
After doing a bit of research on your problem, I wouldn't worry about the blue screen with the Fatal Exception Error at this point. Although, if it comes with a number behind it, please post it.
Your problem most likely lies in what's causing IE6 to hang when you open it.
Since it does work at times and not at other times, I'm suspecting Spyware and most likely trojans. Especially if all you're using is Spybot and Ad-AwareSE.
Here is a Spy Sweeper site with a free spy scanner.
http://www.webroot.com/services/spya...fa6710df 4686
Download the scanner and update the definitions. You will have to be connected to the net to update the definitions.
It won't remove any spyware but will tell you if your infected with spyware.

You should also run a registry scan for errors. Click start then click run and type scanreg then OK.
Another thing to check for is in your system properties for any conflicts or any exclamation marks, drivers not installed.
