No Audio Device
I own a Power Spec 6245 and I use Windows XP. Service Pack 2 has been installed.
Unfortunately, for the past several weeks I have been unable to hear any sounds. Checking ''Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices'' under the Control Panel indicates that there is ''No Audio Device.'' Yet, when I check the hardware tab it states that the ''C-Media AC 97 Audio Device'' is working properly. [I have driver version 5.12.1.44]
Checking other hardware reveals that all other devices (Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Devicess, and Media Control Devices) are also working properly.
I have tried the Windows XP trouble shooting menus without success.
Checking Windows Task Manager reveals that there is a ''soundman.exe'' file
I have gone to Power Spec's web page to download any updates, to include an update of my mother board but this does not resolve the problem. I have also gone to C-Media's web page, but when I try to download updates from that location I receive a ''Page unavailable'' response.
I do not have a spearate sound card installed. Checking the inside of the PC shows that the connections for speakers, etc., is wired to the motherboard.
I have checked the speakers and they operate fine on another PC, and trying different speakers on this system does not solve the problem.
I checked "integrated peripherals" under the BIOS and it says that the VIA 3058 AC 97 Audio is enabled.
I would be grateful for any advice that could be offered.
