Question Nowhere to go!!

Right. First of all, hello. Pleasure to meet you all. Or at least to read you. Thoroughly impressive is the computer jargenness that I will probably never get to the stage of understanding. I myself have dabbled in messing about with little values here and there in the registry editor, nothing special, but managed to end up quite chuffed with myself. And that's about it. But alas...

I have been foiled by one particular wee thing I have been wanting to do in order to make my computer that bit more aisthetically pleasing- I have nView. For all of it's faults it has something that I find immensely gratifying - a transparent taskbar feature. I have since heard of, and tried, many other taskbar transparency programlets but there is one thing that I'm after. Sad as it may be. Can I make it so that a maximised window maximises to fall behind the taskbar. So that if I am in Word, for example, I can see all those little page details shining through the taskbar!?!?

I know it sounds stupid but a friend of mine, a designer, mentioned how it would be nice to have a setting that does it. So... me, being all cocky and registry-wise, tried to sort it out. Minutes turned into and hour. And hours turned into days.

I'm tired. And whatsmore I have managed to belittle myself without any other person in the room. The monitor, mirroring my very soul, has shown nowt but weakness and incapacity. I went to the OS section but they were busy talking about matters in which people can still retain their dignity. So I came here.

Please, help me.

First i'm sorry if i could not get your question well. If so, try to explain it better and more simply.

So, 1st of all, the idea about transperency. Style XP offers such function about making the taskbar transperent.

THEN

2nd, hiding the taskbar, or at least to hide it only behind maximized windows:

Start -> Control Panel ->Taskbar and Start Menu

THere are few options, you may look around for them if you need them. But expecially one of them: "Keep the taskbar on top of other windows". I hope this is what you need.

So, hope I could help you or if i dunno, you may try to explain again.

Yes, pardon me. I do ramble at times.

Anyway, yes, as far as a better description is concerned I shall do my best. You see - think of a window. And the fact that it stops just above the start menu. Usually this is what people want but I want the maximised window to to go behind the taskbar (so that the window fills the whole screen). I also want the taskbar to be transparent so that I can see the tiny bit of the window showing through the taskbar. The I want these settings to stay like that. But unfortuantely I think it's just that some settings override others, which is why it hasn't worked yet.

What you want is kinda like the dock in a Mac, right? I just don't know if you could find a program that would make a dock with a start button, and all the functionality of the taskbar. I'm pretty sure the taskbar is as close to a "hard object"as you can get, meaning that nothing can exist in the same space as the taskbar... I think.

I can just offer you to hide the taskbar when window is maximized, but i`ve no idea how to make it transperent.

Hi, I also want to do the same thing but cannot. Instead I've found a trick

Do not maximize the window; move the bottom edge until it ducks under the transparent task bar and touches the bottom of the screen; then drag the three other edges to the maximum size. Tada! You'll have practically what you're looking for, except being maximized.
