Can´t reinstall Norton System Works!!

sorry,some words might be wrong .. I speak English fairly well , I am from Brazil ...
I tried to active Norton´s full sytem scan and an alert appered telling me some file was lost.. so I had to install Norton again..
OK, than I first removed Norton from my Hard Disk and then I tried 2 reinstall Norton..
But I could not make it, cause Norton System Works(not the anti-virus) is still in the hard disk...wich make the reinstall impossible. And even when I open "install or remove programs" in the Control Panel, the Norton SW doesn´t appears , i.e, I can´t remove it , so I can´t install Norton again .
Some sugestion ?

It has been my experience that you do not really want to use any program Norton offers other than antivirus and firewall. (I just posted a similar longer answer in a different thread)

Of all the Norton products people install SystemWorks seems to be the culprit most of the time when they have problems with their pc.

Personally I would thank your lucky stars it WON'T reinstall.

A registry search to clean out all the Norton/Symantec/SystemWorks entries may help,........ (careful here, some Symantec and Norton registry entries are for WinXP Security Centre to monitor AV/ Firewall status so if you delete the wrong one manually and reinstall SystemWorks you may find Security Centre with a monitoring problem) or you could try Registry Mechanic. If you have a partial uninstall it will find redundant registry entries and remove them. Delete the SystemWorks folder from program files then run Registry Mechanic.

Remember the golden rule of the registry:

Back up before you make any alteration to any registry keys.

Hahaha, sorry but I couldn't help myself. Not making fun of you....I've been dogging Symantec for a week with problems with NSW2004 Pro and SpeedDisk. Their tech. support provided me with 2 links to fix the problem, and each link page had the same error message....hahaha, from their own tech.... support so I did what their final suggestion was, uninstalled NSW...of course I went a step further and tossed the CD!
Paulo, I wish you the best of luck! If you're running XP and you created a restore point prior to installing Norton...you might be able to go back to that....
