Your dream machine

If you were building a computer today what would be your choices of hardware? I would tend to stay with a gigabyte mainboard and an athlon processor but then again I'm ichin to try a P4. Nvidea graphics for me as they offer linux drivers. What else is good or better?

i am not against amd, or nvidia(i still run a geforce 2) but if i were to go at it again for myself, i would buy asus board, with intel 845 pe chipset, and go for the gold with the p4 3.06. I know as soon as i did, they would have released faster chips, but who cares, you said dream right? 845 pe because i can't see spending so much more for a gig of pc3200, or 1066. also, i like these WD special editions with the 8 meg buffer. they rock, and you don't have to mess with scsi. as much as i would like to have an LCD screen, in my opinion crt's look better, so i would get a nice 22".

but i don't think i did too bad for myself this last go 'round. right now ( read: until i see how much i am in for in taxes) i have a P4 2.2 ghz on a cheap but functional pc chips m930lr, still running my old 384 megs of crucial pc133, with a decent maxtor 7200rpm 60 gig HD, and my trusty old geforce 2 mx 400. the last 2 will be (see previous tax reference) gone in favor of the WD HDD, and the video card will be chunked for an OC'd geforce 4 ti 4200.

I'm ichin for a laptop. I want a 2 MGhz processor, I don't care weather its AMD or Pentium, or even somthing else. I like fast computers. Maybe 256 RAM would be enough, but 512 or more couldn't hurt either. For a hard drive, I think 40GB would be enough, but I've been DLing alot more lately, I might need 60... what else. To dual boot or not to dual boot...havn't decided yet. I'd definitely have to put Red Hat on there, and maybe...maybe win2K. It would need one of them dinky mouses, and hopefully some kind of wireless internet support. I won't buy this today, all that would be expensive in a laptop, maybe in a year or so, also laptop parts arn't easy to come by I hear.
