Network means two or more computer connected together, the method of connecting them is not relevent "that is network"
Now back to your question, If you can't install any Network card driver in the laptop then there is no easy solution.
My suggestion would be something like "LIVE CD", where you could use the hardware along with the CD and perform lots of task without installing any software.

.I have a desktop too.The school has a remote access to the laptop so installing wireless is pointless.My problem is this,is there anyway that I can connect the laptop and the desk top together but not network?A KVM switch won't work.Any Ideas?
