Lightbulb Hmm...

I haven't used NAV on my home PC since... forever.
True, it requires a relatively large amount of system resources.
Yes the editions I used (long ago) didn't offer anti-spyware protection.
Also it lacks few very effective tools here and there, which are btw offered by other AV software.
At the very moment I'm about to vote against NAV, a thought crosses my mind. Many users find it difficult to understand all the advanced tools offered by other AVs, while Norton has a simple, user friendly interface. Maybe they just want their peace and quiet when it comes to security, maybe what they need as an expencive but simple AV that gives that feeling.
As for me, I prefer not to use it.

Nod32 would be an excellent AV if only it could remove malware with the same efficiency it detects.
Meanwhile I use Avast!

Norton Ghost is a useful tool, but Acronics is as good. It detects SATA, I restored with it just yesterday, and you can play with the partitions while you're at it.
My advice is get a CD with various tools and you can enjoy both.

In regards to ghost 8.....I still have couple different bootable disk and CD with Ghost on it.....and I will need them for older system, but have you tried to install Ghost 8.x (full version) on Windows platform? it's a pig....to their defence, I haven't tried latest (12)version yet.

After I, I said that Acronis is catching up....and they have....Acronis offers "Universal restore" and Symantec does not (yet)...that mean you can restore you image in a bare bone system....that is really neat( I tested it with a server and I was amazed that I could bring the server back to live in 30 minutes on different hardware platform).

Also, Supported storage locations by Acronis are:
• Networked Storage Devices (SAN, NAS)
• FTP servers
• CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW
• ZIP®, JAZ® and other removable media
• NEW! Tape Support
• PATA(IDE), SATA, SCSI, NEW! SAS
• IEEE1394 (FireWire)
• USB 1.0/2.0 drives
• PC Card storage devices

I understand the point with older system and that's why I'm not ready to throw the Ghost disk away yet, but now-a-day most systems have half gig ram and that is plenty for Acronis boot cd.

That's my $2 worth

Cheers
What's so hard to understand?
People moan about resource consumption like it was a disease. Regardless of what program X can do....... "It is said it wacks the processor so I'm not using it". The speaker then selects an inferior product that makes the computer appear faster. Sound familiar?

Incidentally, regarding Symantecs lack of Malware scanning:
Quote... "Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.2 effectively protects from spyware and adware".
Course it does. Even 9 could detect malware.

Universal restore? Try the old Ghost solution suite. Better still, use the old ghost with a copy of Universal Imaging Utility. Installs a working XP onto a clean HD on any machine in 10 minutes.

Sure Acronis finds the SATA drive now, but at the time It couldn't. yet the "old boy" could.

Acronis have a way to go before they can match symantec.

Encountered a main problem with Norton Firewall with two people I know. The problem was my two friend could not surf the net, IE mentioned that there was no Internet connection.

Norton caused this by blocking them from surfing on the net instead of blocking the viruses and spam brought through to the PC.

After uninstalling it, my two friends can surf the net with no problems.

Never install anything to do with Norton on your PC.

well... i wouldnt say that i HATE norton.

i just believe that the company is alittle money hungry, then again, who isnt?
norton purposely installs a demo version of the program and from there, advises to buy the other version for "full" protection. i have been on the site that it gives you, and there are like 10 different programs that you could buy. there is the firewall, spam protection, adware and malware remover, spyware protector, blah .. you get the point. adnd every single one of them in not cheap.

im my personal opinion, its for those who have something to hide, with money, althoght there are ways to get around it lol. so for a personal use i dont recommend it. haha i go for the cheap or free things recommended by others(cause i dont have the money). i have been using Avast Home Edition and i am fine ... nothing hitting me ...

I have been using AVG & Zonealarm for a couple of years now, all free & I uninstalled Norton (insofar as it would let me) even tho' I had 8 months of update subs left. Only thing I kept was Password Manager which was OK until Liveupdate started importing worms a couple of days ago. Now its all gone.
'nuff said for what is supposed to be top of the range & promotes itself as being top dollar

No different to any other product, if you misconfigure it.

The 360 product is an "all in one".

As far as you know.... animefreak, In all honesty, I would consider another product if I were you: http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/
Quote:
This software provides good protection with the on-demand scanner and the resident scanner though these slow down the system while performing file transfers or opening programs. The email protection is adequate for POP3, SMTP and IMAP accounts.
And you think Norton is bad.

Did you report it?

Don't they all?

If you want free protection with a good rep and contributing user base try Comodo:

I wanted to know what your views of Norton are??

I have to say that I don't hate Norton, but I also no longer use any of their software!! I used to use such products as Norton Ghost, which seemed to work for awhile, and then didn't work at all!! Especially when you're talking about software that's supposed to back-up your machine, it SHOULD work!! lol I finally got tired of dealing with back-ups that didn't run, and completely switched from Norton Ghost to Macrium Reflect.

I've used Ghost 8 and 9. They work flawlessly. Bear in mind that later versions weren't a real progression. They just rebadged another product. Still never had a problem with 9 on live imaging.

Macrium Reflect? Never heard of It.
Can't do a floppy backup/recover. Only does XP and above. Instantly destroys it's appeal.

Higher compression ratio and faster compression makes Reflect the fastest imaging and backup software available.

Ewwwwwww! That's a challenge!

What sort of speed do you get on restore, LK2. what sort of spec?

I hate Norton! I saved My Docs onto CD with Norton as my hard drive was clunking like hell. Now I cant retrieve the fbf files from the CD. Symantic states they cant help as (a) its not a common problem (b) the files have a virus! NOT. (c) the saved files are corrupt. Great help they were. Is there any other program I can use to retrieve the files? And then the Norton CD will be once more a useful object, a coaster.
