Thumbs down Use a bit of common sense people!

There appears to be too many people who just throw a question on here without (so it appears), even attempting to do the slightest bit of research for themselves beforehand or ask for help with a problem explained in such an obscure manner that it would take too much effort just to figure out what the OP was asking.

www.google.com - If those people could be bothered, could well answer many questions and even solve many problems, if some OPs would bother to check first.

Please remember that the people who come here to help others who are less experienced, do so because they wish to help people who genuinely need help, not those who just can't be bothered to look for the answer themselves.

here here!!! I can't believe that people get a problem, panic, and then don't bother to research the problem before asking for help.

I couldn't agree more.

It's one of the reasons I don't visit here much anymore, the plethora of "ZOMG NO SOUNDZ !!!111" threads got to be too much. I must say Barbara deserves a medal for the work she puts in searching for drivers for lazy people who can't be bothered to search either the interwebz or use the site search function to solve what is really a most basic problem.

Someone needs to create a sticky detailing how to search and find drivers for the noooooobz to use, if they then have trouble by all means ask a question or two.

Common guys, I don't know the first thing about car engines, and people don't know the first thing about comps. Sure some things are easy to find, if you know what to look for, but as I know when something is wrong with my car, what is causing it is a different matter altogether. I go to the guy who knows about cars, people come here because we know about comps. I'm glad to help, because I remember the first time I had a problem and how grateful I was for the help I got. That is the yardstick I apply to all requests.

I understand where your coming from.... BUT, unlike car engines computers usually throw up an error if something is wrong!

If a noob's PC isn't booting (Just like if their car engine isn't ticking over) I can understand their lack of understanding and common sense!

If a noob's PC has a problem with MS Word and it says 'I Don't Want To Work Today' then all you have to do is google it and go from there.

Everyone was a noob once!!! It's their quest for knowledge and understanding that got them to this point.

It's a good analogy, but even the most inept car driver might well check if it's no petrol or a flat battery before calling someone.

I've got no problem at all helping anyone who genuinely needs it, nor even those who might have a clue themselves but seek guidance from someone with a bit more experience, or even, I hesitate to say, Sanji from the Indian based computer support desk who throws his Cray Supercomputer BIOS failure into the fray alongside his "Why did my keyboard fail when I poured water on it?" question, but someone capable of googling this forum is equally capable of googling the error/failure themselves too.

Though you are very right in saying that many no so little about computers as to require guidance at every turn. I just wonder how they managed to turn the bloody thing on in the first place.

(BTW, has a dedicated SOUND PROBLEMS forum been considered? I think the quantity of posts on this one subject alone warrant it.)

Nice to meet you all. Have a good one. Ant.

I know it isn't PC (Politically Correct) or ethical to boast about other sites but is there any other sites that do the same as Software Tips & Tricks.

I want to help people as it is my job (No point doing something you hate) but here it just seems to be the same questions over and over again. For example 'I have reinstalled XP and I have no sound' (This one in particular is starting to get quite irritating, lol).

I'd rather try to show someone how they can do something for themselves rather than just do it for them.

As JustAskMe says, the new posts on "Help! No Sound" seems to be the norm rather than looking through the myriad posts, fixes and solutions already provided.

Bookworm I utterly admire your patience, but sometimes don't you just roll your eyes and think "I've answered this particular question a thousand times before"?

Having said that, if I didn't enjoy helping people, I wouldn't be here.

Well, I'm feeling a little small now, I did not realize that my efforts were so annoying. Perhaps the time has come to restrict the time I spend here on the forum.

Your efforts are not annoying at all Bookworm, quite the opposite in fact and I was just saying I admire your patience and enthusiasm in dealing with new requests for help with problem you have solved many times before. I too have been helped by your patience and knowledge.

I sincerely apologise for my earlier comments if you thought they were belittling your valiant efforts. They were not intended to.

I think that cars do have warning lights and error signals on the dashboard mate and have for sometime now. I agree with bookworm and believe we all need a little help now and then

OF course we do, that's why we're all here. I doubt anyoen would claim to know everything, but having a bit of knowledge might help someone else and that's what it's all about.

It's the "This is my problem, I expect help!", type post which irritates. Though even is they're genuine, I can't help but help them too.

It's not at all entirely altruistic, there's a good feeling when you solve a problem for someone who hasn't been able to do it for themselves.

I'm sure that's why we are all here.

Bookworm has my complete admiration.
