if computers were...

If computers were major appliances like fridges and ovens, the public would never put up them

But its not a fridge or oven

All they have to do is stay cold or get hot every now and then. It's job is very simple and repairs can be made by many people with little or no training.
You are right that I'd never tolerate "rebooting" my refrigerator several times in a day. But I do "defrost" the darn thing every once a decade (I know I should do more) and I do clean the oven when my wife makes me.
So some upkeep or maintenance is involved with all appliances to some degree.
Considering what computers do for us, even tho they can be so aggravating, I think they are worth it.
