OK, I always here the new arrival of new and better products. Video cards, mobos, and cpu's, companys keep making these products better. U see my system below, Do i really need to have the latest in technology, Hyper threading, 800fsb, and SATA, Do i need to upgrade for certain programs? What is all this fuss about hyperthreadin and 800fsb, what do we need it for???im asking is upgrading to the best nessasary at the time, and when is a good time to upgrade??????

That is a good question. I was in my fave shop yesterday looking at goodies and for 300 bucks or so I can get 2.4 mg (new motherboard&processor) and a new video card. But then I should have a new sound card and a new dvdr burner and the list goes on. I'm waiting till mine dies and then buy the whole shebang or until the boss says its ok ...lol. I'm running an old athlon(t-bird) 1 gig., 256 geforce, 2 hard drives (1- 40 and 1- 30), 768 ram, 4/writer. My stuff was almost cutting edge when I bought (Everyone raved about my having 1 gig). Now I see systems for sale with over twice my power for less than half the price. I think its a great time to buy. Looks like you are doing pretty good in the hardware department boyysatch. I think your good for another year or so but if you got the bucks - its always nice to have a second machine!

ya thats wat i was thinking, i am building another system for my sis who always uses my computer to burn cds and stuff like that. Another question, with my geforce fx 5200 (non-ultra) which is very cheap, i have 4x AGP slot, would there be a big difference if i bought a WHOLE NEW mobo just to get AGP 8x, is it really worth it, i need details because i do have the money, and it might all go away in a couple of days

build your sis's machine, give her the 5200, and get yourself a 8x motherboard and a 5600 ultra. just recieved mine today, and the 5200 ultra is now in my boys machine. I have to say that all the questions about whether or not the geforce FX's were worth buying can be answered with one word: YES!!! I liked the 5200 ultra, and the 5600 ultra gave me a crusty spot in the front of my pants... from drooling. sicko's

good point beeboy. sorry, didn't realize you were so young partner. there are much more fruitful things to blow your wad on. but just for the sake of your knowledge, the AGP only makes a small difference, at least on the games that I ran on my boy's machine. I fooled around all day yesterday putting my new card in my old (my boy's "new") machine, and the most difference i saw was 14 frames per second in Splinter Cell. My new system, with all the settings turned up, ran 63 fps, and my old motherboard ran (with my new card) at 49. Those numbers are nothing to make a review out of, because they were the numbers displayed when I wasn't too busy playing. but on the "older games" like quake 3, the numbers were neck and neck.
