zxcvbnm1219, please stop asking for Windows Longhorn. You have already made 3 duplicate posts.

Did you read the news on http://www.softwaretipsandtricks.com?

1.) Microsoft is smart. They have ways of figuring out who leaked the alpha. If it gets distributed one of our friends will get fired, and even arrested under US Law.
2.) Longhorn looks a lot like XP for the time being except for a few things, that are, well, buggy. I know everyone wants to get there hands on it, but its not good enough right now to release.

If you see a post anywhere about a possible Longhorn leak, it is defiantly fake. Looks like it will be 2+ months before there is any opportunity for "leakage".

Then why don't you register for beta-user then? Thats a legal way for you to get it. Only the Alpha version is out right now to a select few anyway.

Be a Microsoft Beta-Tester:

I sent an email to betareq@microsoft.com and got this reply, which has the directions you need anyway:

This alias is for the singular purpose of requesting participation in
the testing of beta programs at Microsoft.
If you have concerns related to any other subject, they can not be
addressed at this alias.

Thank you for your interest in testing a Microsoft product. Due to the
volume of requests we receive, this autoreply is the only response you
will receive until or unless you are selected to participate as a
Technical Beta Tester.

We currently have two programs; a program called Tech Net Plus to which
you can subscribe and a technical program to which you can apply.
To guarantee consistent, monthly access to Microsoft beta products, you
may subscribe to the TechNet Plus program. This program does not require
that you provide Microsoft with frequent testing and bug reporting. To
subscribe to the Tech Net Plus program please visit our Web site at
http://technetbuynow.one.microsoft.com/TECH_Entry.asp. For questions
regarding the TechNet Plus Subscription, you may contact: (800) 344-2121
or via email at: Technet@microsoft.com
To apply for participation in a technical beta program, you must send a
message via email to betareq@microsoft.com.
The name of the product you want to test must be included in the
subject.
REQUESTS WITHOUT A SINGLE AND SPECIFIC PRODUCT NAME IN THE SUBJECT LINE
CAN NOT BE PROCESSED.

Submit a separate request in this manner for each product you are
interested in testing. Your application does not guarantee participation
due to limited testing slots. Include the following information in the
body of your email message:
First Name
Middle Name
Last Name
Company
Street Address (no PO boxes)
City
State
Zip
Phone
Fax
Email Address
A brief description of your system configuration.
A brief description of why you want to test this product.
Your request will be forwarded to the Product Group for review and
consideration. Please be aware that due to the volume of requests
received, you will only be contacted if you are chosen to participate.
We appreciate your interest in testing Microsoft products.

I was easily able to find, download and install Windows Longhorn. Using it right now. I won't mention where I got it, but for those diehard users, its out there if you look.

The desire for windows longhorn is already widespread I see. But I feel I have to say that, Longhorn is going to contain some features that some, or even most, users will not desire. Microsoft is working towards an OS called Palladium that is perfectly TCPA compliant. Longhorn will be partially TCPA compliant. TCPA is going to give alot of control over files and documents to the original creators of the content, more control than I think one should have. For example, it would give record companys the ability to prevent you from playing MP3s that are unregistered, even if you copied them from your own CD that you bought. Wether they will actually do this is a different story, but they will have the ability to at least with TCPA compliant computers, maybe starting with Longhorn. So, please understand what could happen with Longhorn before you jump on the bandwagon, if I say more I'll just end up repeating what I've said in other threads, but please at least look into TCPA a little more before going down the Longhorn road, I highly suggest reading Ross Anderson's TCPA FAQ. Also, if you really are a 'Die Hard' user, maybe you should take the next step and try somthing new.

Here is one thing to watch for (from Tips and Tricks news):

"Microsoft doesn't think computer users should have to use one program to read and write a word-processing file, another to use a spreadsheet, and a third to correspond via e-mail. Rather, the company thinks, a single program should handle it all.

Obviously this means a thorough overhaul of not just Windows but also the Office software suite, Chief Executive Steve Ballmer has confirmed in published computer-industry reports."

Talking p2p

You can download Longhorn from p2p programs like kAzZa or Imech or eMule etc. It still isn't perfect because you can't install any proper programs (like Photoshop), but it looks quite nice I can't wait till it comes out
