Windows Media Player vs RealOne
Do you think which media player is better (WMP or RealOne)?
Can I view the i.e.*.ram and realone files in WMP?

Personally I think that RealOne is better than Windows MediaPlayer. Depending on which version you have MediaPlayer can play almost any type of media, but was created mainly for the .wma format. While RealPlayer was for any type of media. RealOne has better features and GUI, but the choice is up to you.

RealOne can play more formats than WMP can. It looks better too. Both products have spyware, but Real has a bit less than WMP does. So I go with Real, but not by alot. If this were a football game, RealOne would win 26-24.

I think that both players have some great features. Winamp though I believe can have an addon to play .ram files.

I like WMP better, personally. I cant stand the way Real puts things all over your comp. It not as "userfriendly" I find. But thats only my opinion.

Install all the plugins for Irfanview and you dont have to put up with Real, Windows, or Quicktime.

I have to agree with Zortoflaven....I installed RealOne and had nothing but problems....WMP is a lot better. It plays all files if you download the latest codecs...I don't have any problems with what type of files it plays. I hate the way RealOne tries to control every file type, even if you try to change them for another program...best thing to do is got to Control Panel - Add/Remove - and choose RealOne...get rid of it...

Personally i wuold NEVER use any REAL softwarei and my friends have had nothing but problems with it...I find that Winamp3 ( download) plays most files and if there is one that it doesn't then there's probably a plug-in for it...I would recomend Winamp miles above the rest...and the Visual FX r great too

I think that reall one is better too. Ive been using it for a month or so now and it seems to be more user freindly and less prone to freeze.

Real Player is what is known as a PIG program. It installs itself all over your system, loads at startup, puts icons on the desktop and sys tray, hijacks file associations, and hogs resources. I found out a while ago that it plays many video files (like the fractal animations I have been making) terribly. It's only use I can see is certain specific formats that it recognizes, and other programs don't, like the *.ra files you see on amazon under music CD's as preview clips. Otherwize, IMHO it sucks. Microsoft media player (6.4 or 7.1) works excellent for everything, especially with WinXP and all the new codecs. You may also checkout the freeware IRFANVIEW program which is excellent. WHY such a good program is offered as FREEware is a question for a better philosopher than I ...

Has anyone tried PressPlay? It can be used as a stand-alone program or used within Media Player 9.

I had no idea any "spyware" or anything additional was added to my computer with WMP or REAL. We do have a firewall (ZoneAlarm)...does that protect us? We installed REAL Player when we first got this computer a year ago (before installing ZoneAlarm). Can anyone tell us what we can look for in terms of unwanted stuff so we can delete it?
Thanks,
Lynn E.

the biggest part of the spyware that these programs use are uninstallable. you remove them, you won't be able to use the player. C-Dilla is one example. It is a program written by MacroMedia (the shockwave Flash people) and is pretty good as far as design goes. It is nearly impossible to get around. If you remove this, expect serious problems out of all programs that play media, as it has to do with copyright protection.
